May News

Due to the May 1st blizzard we missed the visit of Suzie Smith and her mom, Carrie-Ann from Australia. Pastor Lorne reported that Suzie and Carrie-Ann were disappointed that the snowstorm kept them from church as they were looking forward to renewing acquaintances with everyone. The blizzard knocked out area power for hours and it was still down at church and in the town of Glenavon all day Sunday and into Monday. Pastor Lorne said Suzie and Carrie-Ann were surprised the house was so warm even with all the cold outside. Apparently they don't have furnaces in Australian homes. Please pray for them as they travel to New York and Orlando before heading home.

Pastor Lorne and Dianne were at the PAOC conference last week. They met some of our missionaries and learned where our money goes when we allocate it to the mission field. It was especially heartening to hear about the successful water wells being drilled. Reports from the conference are located at the back of the church if you'd like further information.

Pastor Lorne's Mother's Day message was taken from John 19:26,27 which says, 'When Jesus saw his mother there, and the disciple whom he loved standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman, here is your son,” and to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” From that time on, this disciple took her into his home.'

Pastor Lorne said even in all His agony and pain, Jesus took time to think about the welfare of his mother and wanted to ensure she would be looked after when He was gone.

Exodus 20:12 says, '“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the LORD your God is giving you.'

Honouring your mother didn't come from a bunch of mothers gathered together to pray for things to come, but from the Ten Commandments as handed from God to Moses. It's important to honour our parents. Mothers are mothers because they care for their children. Mothers really care. They have the innate ability to look past faults and see the good in people.

Mothers take the education of their children seriously whether it's academic or spiritual.

In Joshua 24:14,15, Joshua says, 14 “Now fear the LORD and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the LORD. 15 But if serving the LORD seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the LORD.”

Pastor Lorne said it isn't just for his household, but for all households. Make a declaration as Joshua did: As for me and my household, we will serve the LORD!

Pastor Lorne wants us to hang onto that with all our hearts. We will serve the Lord!

It is our powerful confession. "We will serve the Lord!"
